CWB Welding Foundation Applauds Nova Scotia financial commitment for trades training

The CWB Welding Foundation applauds the Government of Nova Scotia for its commitment to cover tuition for trades training.

“This is a forward thinking decision by the Government of Nova Scotia that will provide long term benefits for the trades’ landscape in the province,” said Deborah Mates, Executive Director of the CWB Welding Foundation. “We are supportive of this investment because it will assist with the shortage of skilled welders in Nova Scotia.”

There are roughly 2,200 apprentices each year in Nova Scotia and this initiative will cost $1.3 million annually.

The cost to study welding at the post-secondary level varies, but can hinder an aspiring welder’s future goals, as part of the CWB Welding Foundation's mandate, they have several financial awards programs to assist with tuition.

“In order to mitigate the current trend where the average age of a welder in Canada is 47, all stakeholders – government, industry and organizations like the CWB Welding Foundation need to work collaboratively together,” said Mates. “Covering the tuition for welder apprentices is the right step in the right direction. The CWB Welding Foundation is here in any way to provide support.”
