The CWB Foundation provides professional development sessions to metalwork and welding educators in secondary schools across Canada. We feel that if educators have sustained professional growth opportunities to increase their knowledge and skills in welding, they will impart their wisdom to their students and help create a stronger base of future tradespeople.
Our staff has experience offering these professional development programs to educators, and we will work to increase the knowledge and skills of educators regardless of their current understanding of welding.
We currently offer two streams based on educator needs.
Technological Educator Training
This program is designed to enhance the welding skills of secondary school technology educators through hands-on learning opportunities. Broken down into three units, this program will provide teachers with the knowledge to further support their students.
CWB Education’s online curriculum is the standard across Canada and is used in many secondary and post-secondary schools across Canada. This curriculum is used in this training to provide classroom resources and teach technical hands-on skills to enhance the learning and upskilling of educators.
Unit one and two of the program focus on two common welding processes typically required for the student to gain entry-level employment, pursue an apprenticeship or enter post-secondary education. Unit three focuses on career awareness and allows participants to practice and participate in a CWB weld test to increase their understanding and knowledge. This, in turn, will enable educators to support their students better through the qualification process. At each unit, participants will meet several competency-based benchmarks, including gaining valuable industry knowledge, accessing education support for the classroom and increasing awareness of the career options available for an individual with welding skills.

Career Compass Workshop
This training session allows educators to learn about welding skills and gain an awareness of the vast opportunities in welding, welding-related and skilled trades careers. Participants will gain a hands-on welding experience either in a welding shop or thought the use of welding simulators. In the weld shop, under the instruction of an experienced welder/instructor, participants will experience the excitement of striking their first live arc. As an alternative option, participants can practice their welding skills using a welding simulator. With either choice, participants will be able to experience welding to understand the skill level needed and to be able to share their experience and knowledge to encourage others to do the same.
Training options will be dependent on location and shop availability.
