Joseph G. Doria Exemplary Student Award
The Joseph G. Doria Exemplary Student Award is a national award established in 2013 to honour the leadership of Mr. Doria as Chairman of the CWB Group Board of Directors from 2009-2013. The award’s purpose is to promote and encourage the pursuit of a career in welding. Mr. Doria has been an active participant in the welding industry for over 42 years, is past president and CEO of Lincoln Electric Company of Canada and remains an active member of the CWB Group Board of Directors.
This award is made to a graduating Canadian secondary school student who shows exemplary academic excellence, a demonstrated passion for the welding industry, and community involvement, who is entering a full-time welding technician or welding engineering technology program with a desire to pursue a career in the industry.
Eligibility
Students who are currently enrolled in a secondary education program and have been accepted into a full-time welding program offered by a Canadian post-secondary institution.
Students who have already graduated are also eligible to apply, provided that their date of high school completion was later than January 1, 2020.
Instructions
Complete the online application form in its entirety. You will require the following in order to do so:.
- Your current official high school transcript verification report with grade 11-12 marks highlighted (as PDF or JPG file)
- 2 letters of reference (as PDF or Word files) from a teacher, staff member, or employer relating to your activities in welding and other courses.
- Proof of registration or acceptance to a post-secondary institution for a full time welding program(as PDF or JPG file)
- An essay (as PDF or Word file) you have prepared (500 words) that includes information regarding the following weighted categories:

Expectations of Recipient
All applicants must confirm their agreement with the following expectations should they be a recipient of the award:
- Recipients must agree to be publicly acknowledged and recognized.
- Recipients must agree to include their name and photograph in any internal and/or external communications or marketing collateral that the CWB Welding Foundation deems appropriate.
- Recipients must agree to the publication of their essay at the full discretion of the CWB Welding Foundation.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by an advisory panel. Funding decisions are the responsibility of the CWB Welding Foundation and are approved by its independent Board of Directors.
