The CWB Welding Foundation is a proud supporter of Skills Canada’s National Competition. Even though the competition was cancelled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we still wanted to be part of Skills Canada’s work to promote trades and technology to youth. When we learned they were launching an online campaign to highlight fun and interactive initiatives that would have been held at the National Competition, we were excited to participate!
Originally, we had planned on hosting a special breakfast at the National Competition that would feature an intimate and interactive conversation with women welders. Instead, we are proud to partner with welding instructor and #WomenOfSteel ambassador Nicole LeClair to present two new skill-building videos.
In addition, we reached out to the other speakers who were going to talk about being a woman in welding. We’ll be sharing some of their thoughts and advice over the coming weeks.
Each video featuring Nicole LeClair demonstrates an introductory welding project that high school welding students can try in their school or other supervised shop setting. The projects are designed to help students safely build and develop their skills and expose them to other processes with a practical and hands-on project. Plus, they’re fun!

Nicole LeClair is Red Seal Welder/Fitter, Welding Engineering Technologist, level one visual Welding Inspector, Welding Professor and #WomenOfSteel ambassador. In addition, she has created a bursary award to support welding students who are pursuing welding at the post-secondary level in Ontario.
About the Women of Steel / Introduction to Welding Program
Women of Steel is both a social networking campaign and a structured pilot course designed to introduce women to the fundamentals of welding.
