Sparking Success: Our impact in 2019-2020

The mission of the CWB Welding Foundation is to broaden awareness of the career potential and opportunities in welding, and to advocate for a strong and sustainable welding workforce in support of Canada’s economy.

Through education-based programs and initiatives, we improve accessibility and reduce barriers to entry to the welding trade for all individuals—especially Indigenous, disadvantaged and at-risk people—and we support welding education through the provision of equipment, infrastructure, consumables and teacher training.

Highlights

Between April 2019 and March 2020, we had significant impact on students, schools and educators. Here are some highlights:

  • We helped 50 schools across Canada upgrade their welding shops with new equipment or consumable materials, with a total investment of $2.3 million.
  • More than 417 people participated in our welding programs—including our camps for youth, which are designed to promote welding as a safe, rewarding and exciting option, and our Women of Steel – Introduction to Welding Program, which helps to open the door to welding for women.
  • We invested $78,000 in welding educator training, providing 156 teachers from 10 school boards with new skills, techniques and methods so they can better prepare students for apprenticeships and/or post-secondary welding studies.
  • We gave out a total of $125,000 in awards to 40 students across Canada to further their welding education in post-secondary programs—from student awards help reduce barriers to further education for Indigenous students with government-matched programming, through to funding academic achievement in welding engineering with graduate scholarships for women and men, research awards and student club and travel bursaries.
  • We secured $2.1 million in direct contributions, and $1.9 million in collaborative direct investments. This was a new record. We are broadening our network of donors so we can see greater impact in the future and ensure our sustainability as an agent of change and opportunity.
  • And much more!

We couldn’t have done this without you.

The CWB Welding Foundation is a nationally registered charity and we rely on the support of partners from industry, education and beyond to deliver our programs. To our valued partners—thank you for making this success possible. We couldn’t have done it without you.
