CWB WeldSAFE IBB Sponsorship News Release

The CWB Welding Foundation (CWBWF) is happy to announce the signing of its first national sponsor for its CWB WeldSAFE™ grant program, the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers (IBB). The IBB has committed $75,000 per year for five years making this sponsorship the largest investment the CWBWF has ever received in a single agreement.

Through this generous support, the CWB WeldSAFE grant program will advance safety quality and help ensure compliance with best practices for welding lab safety, in secondary and post-secondary educational environments.

IBB funding will support the purchase of PPE contained in each safety kit making it possible for additional high schools to receive equipment for their students. Given the number of schools that offer welding programs and the nature of PPE to wear worn down over time, this program will be offered on an annual basis for a minimum of five years with the intent to support all qualified applications that are received (based on available funding). The CWBWF will be solely responsible for the selection of beneficiary schools.

The IBB joins the list of industry partners who have stepped forward in support of the CWB WeldSAFE program such as 3M Canada, Lincoln Electric and Weldready.

CWB WeldSAFE™ Grant Program

The CWB WeldSAFE grant program is open to eligible Canadian secondary schools looking to enhance educational resources in high school welding shops, providing classes with new personal protective equipment (PPE) and learning resources to inform and promote best practices for students and their educators.

This program further complements CWB Education’s high school curriculum and their existing programs for secondary schools and educators to specifically address the increased need and to update PPE for students, along with resources for students, educators, and the public about the proper uses and fit of PPE to improve safety in the lab and classroom.
